Managed Service Provider IT Specialists (ITS) is set to reveal a core skills blueprint for the ultimate Business Continuity (BC) manager at BCI World

BIRMINGHAM, UK – Oct. 31, 2016 — /BackupReview.info/ — As the BC industry matures to deal with perhaps the widest range of challenges in history – from currency devaluations to Brexit and cybersecurity to global weather – the experts at ITS have put together some of the core skill requirements needed to ride out the storm.

Yusuf Ukaye, business continuity specialist at ITS, will be speaking on the second day of the BCI World event on the “Professional development: New skills for a changing landscape” panel. http://www.bciworld2016.com/index.php/bci-world-programme-day-two

He’ll be revealing what successful business continuity managers need in their toolboxes to keep pace with the business world through 2017, as well as some best practice BC thought leadership that will be relevant to businesses of all sizes.

The panel is from 11 am -12:30 pm. on the second day of the BCI World event (8-9 November), held at the Novotel London West Hotel: http://www.bciworld2016.com/

He will also be taking part in a workshop between 14:00 15:30 : From hire to retire; What do you want to do with your career? An interactive workshop with students, professionals and thought leaders from around the world to determine the key factors to a successful career in business continuity and resilience.

Ukaye said, “It’s key to remember that the business continuity industry is fast paced and dynamic, so it’s essential to consult the various departments before, during and after the initial planning phase. Best practices are always evolving, and so are the type and nature of threats to your business. Business continuity is certainly not just about writing a plan and then sitting in a room that has the title on the door.”

Ukaye will break this complex area down into an easy-to-replicate skills blueprint, drawing on his current market expertise and also building a clear picture of the broader challenges ahead for the industry as a whole.

Key skills will include:

  • Understanding your business
  • Choosing the right technology for the right reasons
  • The power of the cloud
  • The power of motivation
  • The power of the right metrics

Ukaye summarized, “Areas such as cybersecurity and information assurance are becoming increasingly core to 99 per cent of business operations, which is why culture-driven business continuity is changing. For example, a company historically would have had no social media policy integrated with business continuity planning, but in 2016 that is a grave error. The management of social media in the event of an incident is a central part of mitigating and managing reputational risk to the organisation.”

Since 2011, Ukaye, DBCI, has been speaking to businesses globally about business continuity issues, including BS 25999, ISO 22301, business continuity software, work area recovery and Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS).

He is currently the business continuity product specialist for ITS. There, he has built strategic channel partnerships and grown the business continuity product portfolio. Among his contributions is his role in the successful strategic planning, implementation and testing of the BlackVault Managed Recovery Platform. The platform consists of core service components that can run via ITS’ private secure cloud, BlackCloud, or a local BlackVault data storage appliance, providing both faster local area recovery and comprehensive off-site disaster recovery capabilities.

Additionally, Ukaye has managed the business continuity programme at the ITS office in Northfield and is driving the organisation’s maturity in business continuity. An active member in the profession, Ukaye regularly attends BCI North Midlands forum meetings and has participated in the BCI mentorship programme this year

BCI World is organised by the Business Continuity Institute. Established in 1994, the BCI has established itself as the leading membership and certifying organization for Business Continuity professionals worldwide.
